Giovanna Benigno | Marsala, Sicily Italy

Giovanna Benigno was born in Marsala, Sicily on November 21, 1967. She obtained her Degree in Architecture in 1995 from Palermo University.
From 2000 to 2004 she worked at several art laboratories of painting and etching in her town with painters including Vito Linares,  Gero Sicurella and Vito Galfano.
At the end of every year she showed her work in a group show inside Carmine Convent in Marsala. During summertime in 2001 and 2002 she was in the contemporary art review of Petrosino, with special guest painter Togo and critics Prof. Gonzalo Alvarez, Prof.Franco Campoli and Prof.Giorgio Seveso. They liked her works and advised her to continue with her painting.

From 2001 she is a teacher of drawing and historical art in Italian public high school. She took part in an Italian art competition “Filippo Salesi” in Sanremo, in Trivero and Santhià where she won a prize from Sella Bank and her works were published in their catalougue.                                                                                                                                                       

She was asked to participate in a group show in Trapani in 2003 for the juniores and cadetti fencing world championship in Sanremo, during the famous Festival of Italian song inside Villa Ormond, and many others                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Her first exhibition in 2002 in Carmine Convent in Marsala she was encouraged from Vittorio Sgarbi, one of the most important  art critics in Italy.

Generally,as a painter, she is interested in human condition, especially in  women's complexity and contradictions.                                                                                                          

She likes mediums like paint on canvas, wood and paper and a lot of colors and techniques.
