Maria Parenteau | San Diego, California USA

Maria Teles Parenteau is a native Brazilian who chose to follow her dreams to America after completing schooling at the French Art Academy in Brasilia, capital of Brazil.  Mariafocused on drawing originally but than chose to pursue techniques in acrylic, oil, watercolor and pastel painting as well as a variety of crafts as she became immersed in the American culture.  Her travels led her to Boston, where she was elected as a member of the Cambridge Art Association,  she also became an active member of the Plain St Art Studios in Rockland, Ma where she participated in collective and individual arts shows. Soon after that, she began dedicating time to the teaching of arts to children of all ages,  then Maria went on to what she considers her most rewarding experience in teaching, instructing troubled teenagers placed in a state run secure detention facility. She loves teaching because it brings together the two most fascinating subject in life for her: people and arts.  

Maria currently resides in San Diego with her husband and is dedicating all of her time to further developing her talents.   She is currently completing a series of paintings that was started 16 years ago named, “Birds, Just Birds”, a collection which plays on the imagery of  birds representing life situations, dreams and hidden secrets.
