I am instantly attracted to top views of any subject, as opposed to an eye level view. I love how the subject gets distorted when seen from above, and so I am forced to paint what I see rather than what I “know”. At this stage, the subject becomes irrelevant and it is nothing but some shapes defined by light and shade. This was one such painting, that had dramatic lighting, and it was fascinating to see the figures appear from some abstract shapes that I painted. It was a challenge that I relished and a painting that I love.
