"Stella Lee" 2009 | Acrylic on Board | Size = 48" X 30"

I found this turquoise lobster boat in Bernard Harbor, ME. It was among many other boats in a crowded setting. My vision was to single this handsome boat out with a simple background to focus just on the main subject. Using pine trees and a stony shore which is common along Acadia coasts, I was able to bring out the simple beauty of this fishing vestal. Mist and fog was added to give mystery and atmosphere. Seagulls were added near the end of the painting to give an interesting effect as they are also in the fishing business. Composition is very important to me, with long reflections and the peacefulness of the water as the early sun breaks through the morning fog, and illuminates the main subject – Stella Lee.
